Frequently Asked Questions

What are PRP Injections?

PRP stands for platelet-rich plasma. The injections are made from the patient’s own blood.
Your provider will collect a blood sample then process it to separate the red blood cells
from the plasma (the liquid part of your blood), and the platelets. Platelets are specialized
pieces of bone marrow that produce growth factors and other chemicals that aid in
healing. These platelets along with a small amount of plasma are injected into the
treatment area.

What Does PRP Do?

PRP contains over 30 bio-active proteins that contribute to tissue growth and healing.
When PRP is injected at the injury site, it reduces inflammation, enhances cellular growth,
and prompts healing in bone and soft tissue. Essentially, PRP activates your body’s natural
healing process, but the effect is amplified.

How Fast Will it Work?

90% of the patients we see in our office experience some relief within a week after
their first PRP injection.

What Are the Side Effects?

Since you are receiving your own plasma back, you won't have any side effects from the
substance itself. The process of any injection always comes with a slight risk of bleeding or
infection. Our professionals will make every effort to mitigate these risks. When a PRP injection is given by a professional, the risk of bleeding or infection is less than 1%. In other words, PRP injections are among the safest treatments available.

Who Should Not Receive PRP Injections?

As with any treatment, there are some contraindications to PRP: Individuals who are pregnant,
have cancer or have blood clotting disorders are not good candidates for treatment.

What areas can be treated with Botox?

Botox can be used to address lines and wrinkles on the forehead and eye area, as well as lip
lines. It may also be injected to soften the dimpling of the chin or into the muscles of the jaw to
create a slimmer appearance.

How does Botox work?

Botox is a neurotoxin (a form of botulinum toxin type A) that is injected into targeted
treatment areas using an ultra-fine needle. Botox® works by blocking nerve signals to prevent the muscles in certain areas of the face from contracting, allowing the skin to remain smoothand unwrinkled.

Does Botox hurt?

Botox treatments are quick and not considered painful. Most patients say they experience
minimal discomfort during the injection process but that it does not continue after the
completion of the procedure.

When willl see the results?

Each patient is different, but most will typically begin to notice results gradually between 3-7 days after receiving injections. For some, it may take up to 2 weeks to realize the final effects.

How long will my Botox last?

The outcome will vary from person to person, but typically you can expect the results of
Botox to last from three to six months.

Is Botox safe?

Botox is FDA-approved as a safe treatment for reversing lines and wrinkles. However,
patients who are pregnant, breastfeeding, or have certain neurological diseases should not
receive Botox treatments.

Are there any adverse side effects?

As with any procedure, whether medical or cosmetic, there is always a risk of side effects.
Some patients may experience bruising, swelling, redness, or tenderness around the
injection site. These side effects resolve on their own within a few days or up to a week
following Botox treatment.

What are dermal fillers?

Dermal fillers are injectable treatments used to restore lost Volume for a more youthful
appearance. Fillers can be used on the face to soften wrinkles and creases, restore fuller
lips and even smooth out the skin on your hands.

How long do dermal fillers last? Can they migrate?

Most dermal fillers can last anywhere from six months to two years based upon which filler is selected. Dermal fillers do not migrate to other areas.

Are there risks or side effects?

Overall, dermal fillers are relatively safe and effective. The most common reactions may
include redness, swelling, bruising, itching or tenderness. For most, these mild reactions
resolve within a week or so. The downside? Most fillers are not permanent so additional
treatments may be needed.
